"I don't know anything, but I do know that everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough." - Richard Feynman
This page may not be as technical as other pages, but it should showcase different aspects of my life.
Pi day (14th March), 2014: Lecture by Prof. Walter Lewin on 'The Birth and Death of Stars' at BITS, Goa. And for the first time in history,
willingly (unlike my college) and luckily (guest of Walter), I am in the first row (well, I chose 2nd) in auditorium of 2400. :-D
14th July, 2013: Got to work with a team consisting members from diverse backgrounds such as engineering, medical, design, and with mentors
from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. We worked on designing innovative tools for diagnosing eye-related diseases in collaboration
with LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.
MOOC era began! When I was in my senior year of undergrad, then Stanford University's Prof. Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig offered up
a free Stanford-quality course on 'Introduction to Artificial Intelligence'. Nearly 160,000 enrolled for that class. And so began, the rise of
Massive Open Online CourseWare. Of all the (a dozen or so) courses that I took on Coursera, Udacity, edX, with intermediate to advanced level,
I found Probabilistic Graphical Models by Prof. Daphne Koller of Stanford the most challenging. It is even considered as one the most difficult
courses at Stanford itself. This course developed my ability to understand intricate mathematical concepts and helped me score a distinction
in Stanford-level course.
This boosted my confidence and motivated me to attend even more interesting courses out there like, Convex Optimization by Prof. Stephen Boyd.
This course truly uplifted me, helping me understand concepts from hot topics like Compressed Sensing, The Netflix problem - Matrix Completion, etc.
While studying these topics, I became an ardent follower of Prof. Emmanuel Candes's lectures. I like the fluidity with which he explains these topics.
I made a group on Facebook for people who took CVX 101: Convex Optimization course by Prof. Stephen Boyd on Stanford edX.
Join it, if you are interested. Even TA (Ms. Udell) of that course is part of it.
Other few mentions: In my these bucket list there are these great scientists which have inspired me in life, and I love to meet them and talk to
them when I have chance to. To name a few, I have met Dr. Vijay Bhatkar on several occasions, and Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar on a flight to
Hyderabad from Pune, India. I truly had some great discussion with these people.
Currently, from academics, I have these people on my bucket list:
I wish I could not only meet but get to work with them at some point of time. I will strive to attain that level. Help me achieve this goal if you can. :)
19th March, 2012: "It's working like pure magic!!!" - my reaction, when for the first time the stand-alone device that I build starts to recognize my handwriting
that I trained using Neural Networks. Below is the picture of me showing to colleagues over Skype how thin the device turned out to be. Later, when
I found out that, some group of undergrad students from Cornell University in their senior year did similar project to mine, I felt a sense of accomplishment
that my project had a good stand. :)
